“A Great Day In Twin Cities Hip Hop” Film Screening and Discussion
Minnesota Historical Society

This year marks the 50th anniversary of hip hop. This art form has since touched every corner of our world and evolved into one of the most significant cultural forces today.

In 2010, producer and independent journalist Ralph L. Crowder III created a documentary film about the “A Great Day in Twin Cities Hip Hop” photo shoot organized by Dj Stage One.

The gathering was a reflection of important achievements and affirmation. A wide group attended with various experiences in the Twin Cities hip hop community. Every city has a unique story with many layers known and unknown, and the Twin Cities has been in the international spotlight as a force within the hip hop art community.

This important documentary is a time capsule and inroad into a rare look of Black youth cultural expression prior to the 2020 George Floyd uprising.

There will be live music and a panel discussion with local hip-hop legends after the screening of the “A Great Day in Twin Cities Hip Hop” documentary.
