HOURS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Full time, 40 hours a week
Salary Range: $75,000 – $80,000
Benefits: 50% employer paid health insurance for employee; attendance to all Cedar shows; 30 paid days of holiday/ PTO annually
Some hybrid flexibility, though this position operates primarily from the building, during daytime hours.

ABOUT THE CEDAR CULTURAL CENTER
The Cedar Cultural Center is a non-profit performing arts organization and all-ages music venue located in Minneapolis, Minnesota USA. It is operated by a professional staff in conjunction with its board of directors, and with key assistance from a large pool of volunteers. Reflecting its location in the racially and culturally diverse Cedar Riverside neighborhood, the venue is known for presenting a wide variety of global roots, folk, indie, experimental, bluegrass, Americana, and blues artists, as well as artist residencies, educational programs, workshops, films, dances, comedy, spoken word and community events. The only venue of its kind in the Midwest, The Cedar currently hosts 150 performances annually.
ABOUT THE POSITION
This position provides leadership, strategy and management for advancing events; internal systems operations, including HR and technology; facility operations; and finances. Site management and internal systems give structure and order to a rotation of 2-4 weekly performances in our venue. These systems ensure safe, positive user-experiences for artists, audiences, volunteers, as well as staff. Effective systems positively affect the overall financial health of the organization, too. We are looking for someone who brings care and intention to these processes and can play an active part in continuous improvements to core systems, as well as stewardship of relationships that advance our work.
Finance & Operations (30%)
Direct responsibilities:
Supervise the accounting clerk and contract bookkeeper; monitor and update a mission-driven system of policies, internal controls, and accounting standards.
Serve on the board finance committee, working closely with the treasurer.
Ensure compliance with internal policies/procedures, as well as state and federal laws as they relate to labor, venue operations, and nonprofit accounting; identify and assess financial and security risks.
Serve as lead project manager for annual audit process and 990 preparations, as well as other legal and financial compliance.
Collaborate closely with the executive director on the annual budget process.
Lead the development and implementation of internal technology systems and maintenance of current systems (Eventbrite, Promoter Ops, Google Drive, SquareSpace, Paylocity).
Lead, manage, and support a team to:
Implement and maintain day-to-day business operations, finances, policies, and procedures including administering bank accounts.
Be responsible for revenue generated from concessions and merchandise sales.
Be responsible for structuring net-positive venue rentals.
Advancing Events (20%)
Direct Responsibilities:
Serve as air-traffic controller of all the moving parts that go into execution of a performance; coordinate weekly responsibilities and duties.
Lead and support an events team that includes two full-time event managers, nine part-time house managers, and contract technical support.
Lead a weekly Advancing Meeting during which programming and technical staff come together to prepare for upcoming events.
Site and Space Leadership (20%)
Direct responsibilities:
Lead the development and implementation of lease negotiations, maintenance schedules and site improvements related to The Cedar’s physical site
Collaborate with the Program and Events teams to ensure that site operations and facilities meet the needs of community partners and program goals
Lead, manage and support a team to:
Ensure The Cedar’s facilities are welcoming, well maintained and accessible for staff and visitors. This includes a high-pedestrian public plaza that is meaningful to the neighborhood.
Conduct public safety planning and related policies in partnership with the Events Team and honoring The Cedar’s racial equity commitment.
Human Resources (20%)
Direct responsibilities:
Administer human resources, benefits, payroll, and basic operation functions; communicate those policies and procedures effectively to staff.
In partnership with the Executive Director, oversee hiring, recruitment, and onboarding/offboarding procedures; ongoing employee training program(s); and performance review design and implementation.
Actively commit to continuous improvement of internal business practices, engage in efforts that advance The Cedar’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.
Other (10%)
Participate in staff, board, relevant program and department meetings and events.
Represent and support the organization in hospitality and serve as a welcoming presence during in-office hours and public events.
Represent the organization externally and internally, as necessary, particularly with vendors and contract negotiations.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have
a minimum of 5-10 years of professional work experience executing events, ideally live music.
strong financial competency, ideally through the lens of a non-profit organization, with the ability to explain financial principles and concepts plainly.
production or technical skills enough to substantially engage in programming decisions.
experience leading people and teams, especially in operations and finance.
facility management experience.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training and experience.
COMPETENCIES
Systems-thinker, collaborative, highly organized, a good communicator (both written and verbal), analytical, and accountable; will have passion for music; will possess a high degree of initiative; patience and calm.
The person in this position will work regularly with Quickbooks, Promoter Ops, Eventbrite, Kindful, Google Suite, Zoom, and Dropbox. Technical experience and familiarity with these platforms (or similar) is necessary.
