The film We Rock Long Distance follows Twin Cities artists M.anifest, Maria Isa, and Tou SaiKo Lee to their roots in Ghana, Puerto Rico, and Thailand. We will learn about the ways they have overturned dominant stereotypes, created unexpected cross-generational connections, and strengthened their local and global communities through their words, music, and actions. The film amplifies their stories, offering an intimate look at the process of creation and the connections between music, home, tradition, and family.

Local artists Ibe Kaba, Janna Vang, Rodrigo Sanchez, and Tou SaiKo Lee will each showcase their spoken word and music through live performances.

Tou SaiKo Lee and Pollen’s Tenzin Kunsal will be facilitating the event.

 

 


 

Light food and refreshments will be served.

In Progress is a nonprofit whose mission is to diversify cultural dialogue and pave the way for new voices in the field of digital art making. In Progress provides opportunities for newly developing artists to develop their skills as digital storytellers and leaders through the use of photography, video, music and other forms of digital media. In Progress is committed to breaking down barriers of geography, class, education, and culture. In Progress uses digital art making as a tool for public discourse, while building the skills of new makers so they may create, teach and lead.
