Do you want to make a difference in the South Minneapolis community by helping individuals and families gain food security and stability? Sabathani Community Center is hiring a Food Shelf Associate to maintain day-to-day food shelf operations, which will include stocking dry goods, monitoring refrigerated food and supplies, providing guidance for volunteers, and supporting the food shelf receptionist that works directly with clients. The hours for this position are 9:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Thursday.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Move deliveries of up to 10 – 15 pallets of food from truck to appropriate storing locations.
• Assist in maintaining a clean and sanitary environment in all work areas.
• Maintain the organization and cleanliness of work areas, including emptying garbage, sweeping, and mopping all areas of the food shelf.
• Break down boxes for compactor.
• Greet volunteers and clients politely and warmly and assist volunteers to carry out the daily operation of the Food Shelf.
• Assist in collecting food and clothing donations at drop-off.
• Assist Family Resource Manager in ensuring the food shelf is physically attractive and operates according to guidelines/codes at all times.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to read and write.
• Ability to follow food shelf policies and procedures, including safety procedures.
• Ability to demonstrate high degree of professionalism in communication, attitude, and teamwork with food shelf clients, staff, and management.
• Ability to exercise sound and rational judgement when assisting all visitors, food shelf clients, and volunteers.
• Demonstrated experience working with diverse and / or under-represented populations.
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects over 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, twist, and turn frequently throughout the day.
• Ability to frequently stand and walk (3-6 hours / shift).
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications:

• Valid MN Drivers’ License, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Sabathani’s driving record requirements
